Visual Artists: CALL FOR ENTRIES

EXHIBITION: Vanishing Point
ENTRIES DUE: January 25, 2016
EXHIBITION DATES: February 18 to April 15, 2016

THEME: From climate change to urban sprawl; from sunrises to supermoons; the landscape continues to captivate artists. No longer are we content with the romantic vistas of the Hudson River School or Paulus Potter cows. From Robert Smithson’s earthworks to Jennifer Bartlett’s modular painting with extreme horizontal dimensions and Mark Dion’s archeological inspired digs, contemporary artists have changed the portrayal of the landscape to incorporate conceptual, political and ecological concerns. The contemporary landscape becomes an environmental intervention with Richard Serra or an excursion through time as Alan Sonfist posits. Art House Gallery is hosting an open call for Vanishing Point, a trek through the wilds of our vision of the world. The curators are open to a broad interpretation of the theme.

CURATION: The exhibition is curated from the open call. This approach is distinct from a juried exhibition. Art House Gallery open calls are an opportunity to look beyond established networks to bring together a diverse group of artists. The curation team is rigorous in the service of the artists, the exhibition and audience. In addition to the quality of the work, balance, space and other factors influence final selections. This means some excellent and appropriate work may not ultimately be included. We hope all the artists submitting work understand this and continue to respond to future calls.
