NEA Big Read: Why We Can’t Put Dystopian Fiction Down – Apple Tree House Lecture

March 12, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Mayor Steven M. Fulop, the City of Jersey City, the Jersey City Office of Cultural Affairs, the Educational Arts Team and the Jersey City Free Public Library are proud to present “Why We Can’t Put Dystopian Fiction Down,” a public scholar lecture part of the Big Read.

Associate Professor at Montclair State University, Laura Nicosia, Ph.D., will discuss the themes of Station Eleven, the topic of dystopic fiction, and more!

Event description: When you read Station Eleven, how many times did you think to yourself (or maybe say out loud), if I were in that situation, what would I do? Or perhaps you considered bigger thoughts about the response of society in general? Dystopian fiction, especially young adult, is often thrilling to read and encourages a look at the world around us and conversations about our own responses to the concept of collapse and survival. In this “book talk,” the odds are in your favor for having a fascinating conversation.

This event is free and open to the public. Seating is limited and requires advanced registration. Please click here to reserve your seat. For questions, please call the Office of Cultural Affairs at (201) 547-6921.

This program is made possible by a grant from the New Jersey Council for the Humanities, a state partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
