The Nepali Flag Raising

September 20, 2021 @ 11:30 am - 12:00 pm

The flyer has a picture of the Nepal Flag. The national flag of Nepal is the world's only national flag that is non-quadrilateral in shape. The flag is a simplified combination of two single pennons, the vexillological word for a pennant. Its crimson red is the color of the rhododendron, the country's national flower. Red is also the sign of victory in war.

The City of Jersey City, Mayor Steven Fulop, the Office of Municipal Council and the Office of Cultural Affairs are proud to recognize the Consulate General of Nepal, Jersey City Nepali Community and Adwan Organization as we celebrate the 6th Anniversary of Nepal’s Constitution Day during the Flag Raising Ceremony on Monday, September 20, 2021.

Nepal, the landlocked country between China and India, was officially declared the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal on May 28, 2008  with an estimated population of over 29 million people.

Nepali Constitution Day is observed on September 20th each year. This is treated as the National Day of Nepal and celebrates the adoption of the current Constitution on this day in 2015. This holiday was first observed in 2016 on the first anniversary of the promulgation of the new Constitution.

Nepal is governed according to the Constitution, which came into effect on September 20, 2015, replacing the Interim Constitution of 2007. Through all its history of border expansion and contraction, Nepal has never been colonized and ruled by foreigners, which means Nepal doesn’t celebrate an Independence Day.

The Jersey City Nepali Community was formed in 2017 to serve Nepali community members residing in Jersey City and the surrounding area. The mission of  the Jersey City Nepali Community is to preserve and promote traditional Nepali culture and values while establishing a unique Nepali identity in Jersey City.

The Nepali community  has directly contributed to the diversity and positive growth of Jersey City in various fields, including education, entrepreneurship, government, literature, drama, sculpture, music, food, and culture, as well as all aspects of life throughout the United States and abroad.

Several citizens are pictured holding the flag before it is raised The national flag of Nepal is a simplified combination of two single pennants. Its crimson red is the color of the rhododendron, the country's national flower. Red is also the sign of victory in war.
