March 20 @ 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm

INDEPENDENCE DAY OF GREECE FLAG RAISING THURSDAY, MARCH 20TH AT 3:30PM CITY HALL COUNCIL CHAMBERS

The City of Jersey CityMayor Steven FulopOffice of the Municipal Council and Office of the Cultural Affairs were proud to commemorate the Bicentennial Anniversary of Greece Independence with the Greek community during the annual Flag Raising Ceremony held on Wednesday, March 20, 2025. The  National Anthem of both nations were played one after the other.

The grandeur the ancient Greeks left has endowed modern Americans and modern Greeks with democracy’s promise of liberty. The ideology of Greece, as embodied in the concept of democracy, is the inspiration which our Nation’s founders framed our Constitution with the immutable principles and democratic ideals which still guides us in charting our course for the future.

Greek-Americans share a love of freedom, liberty, and individual rights. The friendship between Greece and the United States is based on mutual respect, a commitment to common goals, and the sharing of fundamental values.  Ancient Greek ideals of freedom fueled our own struggle for independence, and American friends supported Greek’s effort to forge a modern nation in 1821. Today, the world is still inspired by the eternal values and aspirations for which modern Greeks reached when they began their quest for independence.

The City of Jersey City, Mayor Steven M. Fulop, the Jersey City Municipal Council, the Office of Cultural Affairs, and the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA), with the AHEPA Hudson Chapter 108 presented the Greek Flag Raising.
